About Adrian Macdonald

I have been running competitively since I started indoor track as a sophomore at Westwood High School in Massachusetts during the winter of 2004. Since then, I have enjoyed competing in all types of running events from 4x400 relays on the track to cross country races and road marathons. When I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in the fall of 2016, I quickly fell in love with running in the mountains, but it wasn’t until the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 Boston Marathon that I decided to make the plunge into mountain, ultra, and trail racing. I set my sights on the 2021 Leadville Trail 100. I had a few moments in my running journey that led me to believe I would be successful in such a race, and those notions were confirmed when I lined up for the challenge at 6th and Harrison in Leadville on August 21st, 2021, took the lead at the halfway turnaround in Winfield, and carried it all the way back with the 5th fastest time in race history. While training for Leadville,  my love for the outdoors and the trail running community deepened and I enjoyed one of my best summers ever exploring and challenging myself on mountains in Colorado and Wyoming and making new friends. I have never been more excited for what’s to come as I set my sights on new races, climbing new mountains, and meeting new people!

Outside of my own running, I enjoy giving back to the running community by serving on the board of the Fort Collins Running Club, volunteering at local races, and coaching other athletes. I work at Colorado State University as the Financial Officer of the Department of Statistics and the Chair of the Classified Personnel Council.

In my free time I enjoy eating ice cream, traveling to soccer matches and biking around Fort Collins. My biggest non-running outdoor accomplishment is my 750-mile hike of the Oregon Desert Trail in the fall of 2016.
